Hello,

Yes it can be associated with RA in that it is another auto-immune disease.

My hubby was dx with it in September after YEARS of symptoms! he is now on Thyroxine and they have slowly titrated the dose. He feels much better. They must be very careful as they do not want to give you too much else that would cause worse problems.

Please try not to worry about it as Thryroxine is simply a med which helps bring the thryroid up/down to normal levels and is not in any way dangerous.

Love,

Amanda

I have an underactive thyroid which was diagnosed years before I had RA It's well controlled with Thyroxine, and doesn't cause me any problems.

I have been put on thyroxine, been told I have underactive thyroid, thanks for support, I was just curious if there was a connection with RA, sometimes there isnt a day goes by without getting something else wrong and its always linked to RA, gets you down sometimes.

hi

it is very clearly linked. Most of the longer term RA patients I know have some issues with thyroid.

it is simply treated I understand with thyroxin.

You are also on free prescriptions with this condition.

Hiya, yes I had over active thyroid 27 yrs ago ( Graves disease an auto-immune disease), then underactive once I'd had it out and unfortunately been one of the few who have problems getting stable. It's unstable at the moment as going on to Humira apparantely can upset thyroids. Vast majority of people happily settle on thyroxine. We are in the process of setting up thyroid patient support groups in Kent and there is a huge link with RA, fibromyalgia etc etc.

Hope all goes well for you
xx
